Extensive trialing by region continues to be a key part of our introduction process at Ball FloraPlant so your customers can be confident in plants that perform!

Trialed and Approved

In an effort to ensure our products work in your area, our knowledgeable plant breeding team perform advance trials for each new introduction. They also continuously fine-tune our varieties after they’ve been introduced to keep genetics in top-performance.

Before we consider launching a new variety, it has to meet our minimum trial standards. This “checklist” includes performance characteristics required for a passing grade in our greenhouse and outdoor trials in various regions. These trials are conducted at our own trial locations and with growers across the country.

  • Shorter crop time than URCs – cuts rooting time in half
  • Reduces propagation time and eliminates transplanting labor
  • Faster root development, improved branching, better-quality plants
  • Requires less heat, so input costs are lower

All-America Selections

All-America Selections (AAS) is the oldest, independent trialing organization of flower and edible varieties that demonstrate great garden performance throughout North America. Horticulture professionals choose the winners each year, which get special recognition and promotion to home gardeners.

Ball FloraPlant AAS award winners have included Gold Medal winner Bee’s Knees Petunia as the most yellow petunia on the market, SureShot™ White Petunia for its resiliency in any kind of weather, as well as “tough as nails” EnduraScape™ Pink Bicolor Verbena, which can tolerate drought and heat. These have all been deemed truly spectacular by AAS Judges.
