SolarPower™ Ipomoea
  • New heart-shaped leaf varieties join the series!
  • Densely branched SolarPower holds its shape and color in the landscape and mixed combos all Summer long, and it works well with companion plants.
  • Medium vigor and a well-branched habit.
  • Most efficient in production.
  • SolarPower’s tidy habit allows for more plants per rack at retail. Best for gallon containers, 10 to 12-in. (25 to 30-cm) hanging baskets, mixed containers and landscapes.
  • A small-pot solution for northern regions.
NEW Black Heart: Offers an excellent mounded habit with a very clean, true heart-shaped leaf. The deep black coloration stays true all Summer long, and in Spring conditions, early growth is deep purple.
NEW Lime Heart: New color has a slight lobe in the heart shape of the foliage.
NEW Red Heart: This new medium red offers a deep red color all through Summer and a clean, true heart-shaped leaf.

Cooling cuttings can actually do damage, so it is recommended that if you do store cuttings, do not put them in a cooler and maintain temperatures at 55-60°F (13-16°C).

I love using SolarPower in garden beds and my mixed combinations. It has just the right amount of vigor.

West Region

When grown in a 12-in. (30-cm) basket, SolarPower benefits from a pinch at 2-3 weeks after stick and generally does not require a PGR when grown at an ADT of 70°F (21°C) or lower.

Midwest, Canada and Northeast Region

We breed SolarPower to be the medium habit basket solution for the Midwest, Canada and the Northeast. We recommend a B-Nine 2,500 ppm spray 2 weeks after transplant to control finished growth.

South and Southeast Region

We recommend Spotlight, our compact Ipomoea for southern baskets. If a grower choses to grow SolarPower, we recommend a 1-2 ppm Bonzi drench 4 weeks after transplant, which will help to control growth in warm climates.
