Galaxy™ Zonal Geranium

Galaxy™ Zonal Geranium
High vigor, green leaf.
  • Galaxy produces mounded plants that are vigorous enough to keep their large, semi-double blooms all season in large containers and landscapes, driving higher sales at retail and creating satisfied gardeners.
  • The series offers excellent garden performance in an easy-to-control, vigorous greenhouse habit.
  • Superior garden performance when compared to other vigorous, green-leaf zonal geraniums.
  • General Information
    • Height: 16-20" (41-51cm)
    • Spread: 16-20" (41-51cm)
    • Exposure: Sun
    • Tray Sizes (cells/tray): See Comments
    • Rooting Hormone:
    • Average Days with Mist: 9-12
    • Pinch: No
    • Average Propagation Time (weeks): 3-4
    • Comments: Stick immediately upon arrival. Geraniums are best rooted in media in strip form to allow for maximum airflow and avoid foliage overlap. After initial rehydration, careful misting is required to optimize callus and root initiation. Mature leaves should show slight wilting at midday and regain turgor in the late afternoon under ideal mist conditions. Leaf petiole wilting indicates undermisting. Overmisting leads to botrytis. Remove flower buds at transplanting.
    • Soil pH: 6.2-6.6
    • Light Levels (fc): 3,500-6,000
    • Temperature Day: 65-76°F (18-24°C)
    • Temperature Night: 62-67°F (17-19°C)

    • No. of Pinches: 0
    • Plant Growth Regulators (S=spray / (D=Drench: Cycocel(S) 750-1,000 ppm to control growth; Florel (S) 200-300 ppm to improve branching.
    • Pests: Fungus gnats, thrips, aphids, mites
    • Diseases: Botrytis, Pythium, Xanthomonas

Galaxy Geraniums have been tested in 8 different regional trial locations where we confirmed their superior garden performance over all competitors in vigorous green-leaf geraniums, as well as their equal performance to competitors in vigorous interspecific geraniums. In addition to this high standard for garden performance, Galaxy is easy to grow in any region.

Florel 300 ppm

North Region

We found in our West Chicago, IL, culture trials that Galaxy genetics benefited from Florel 300 ppm or Cycocel 750 ppm applications to help tone the finished plant habit. Applications were made twice as a spray, with one application within 14-21 days after stick, and the second application 4 weeks after transplant.

South Region

We found in our California culture trials that Galaxy genetics benefited from a Florel 300 ppm application at 14-21 days after stick and 3 weeks after transplant to help tone the finished plant habit. We also applied a B-Nine 2,500 ppm tank mix with Cycocel 750 ppm spray at 7 weeks after transplant to help plants hold at retail.
