When I joined the Ball FloraPlant team in January 2010, I had the pleasure of working with Rick and Dave Brown, owners of Riverview Flower Farm in Florida, as they trialed the new Voltage Yellow osteospermum. Florida got hit with record breaking cold temperatures that month – so I was amazed that Voltage took two weeks of freezing nights covered only with cloth! In fact, the bays were filled with perfect osteospermums covered with bright yellow flowers. I enjoy working with growers like Rick and Dave, who are open to production trials of new varieties.

When our Black Velvet petunia won the Industry’s and Reader’s Choice awards during the Greenhouse Grower’s Evening of Excellence in 2010, we already knew it was a winner. We trialed it extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada and the feedback was fantastic. While learning how Black Velvet performed, the growers at Fredriks Nursery in Ripon, California were able to play with many mixed container combinations. The results? Customers loved Black Velvet and asked for more! I plan to continue introducing growers to Ball FloraPlant’s most exciting varieties coupled with the best cultural practices for their success.

Growers love new varieties – but they want to be confident that these plants perform at retail and beyond! That’s why I worked with Tagawa Greenhouses in 2010 to develop a sample program for new Ball FloraPlant varieties including Archangel angelonia. The production trials were a huge success and strongly reinforced Tagawa’s trust in Ball FloraPlant’s genetics. Tagawa is especially excited about adding our new Fantasia Dark Red zonal geranium to their production. It’s going to be a big success for them – and you’ll love it, too!
